When Kahuku’s Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu lined up behind center and took the team’s first snaps at quarterback against Kamehameha, it wasn’t a gimmick. Alfred Failauga’s special night could pale in comparison to what’s likely to happen in six days. The 342 rushing yards he produced on 31 carries in a 49-28 win at Castle on Friday were the fifth most in a single game in Oahu history. Ten years after being named by Sports Illustrated as the best high school athletic program in the nation, Punahou continues to be recognized nationally. The Buffanblu finished sixth in the 2018-2019 MaxPreps Cup, which was released Wednesday.
