Punahou finishes in the top 10 in MaxPreps Cup

Ten years after being named by Sports Illustrated as the best high school athletic program in the nation, Punahou continues to be recognized nationally.

The Buffanblu finished sixth in the 2018-2019 MaxPreps Cup, which was released Wednesday.

The list ranks the top 100 high school athletic programs in the nation during the 2018-2019 school year based on state titles won and/or national rankings in a given sport.


Punahou finished with 1,746 total points after winning HHSAA titles in girls cross country, boys and girls swimming, boys soccer, boys and girls track, girls tennis, boys volleyball, girls water polo, boys and mixed paddling, and baseball. The Buffanblu also received extra points for its nationally-ranked boys volleyball team, which finished the season No. 25 by MaxPreps.


‘Iolani also made the top 100, finishing in 66th and 1,082 points with state titles in girls bowling, girls volleyball, girls basketball, boys tennis and softball.

Jesuit High in Portland won for the second time in four years, finishing with 2,243 points.
