Kaimuki 37, Kalaheo 0, Final
8:20: Kaimuki ones run last play for a short gain and the clock runs out, the Bulldogs win 37-0 to improve to 2-0. Kalaheo drops to 0-3.
8:17: Kaimuki gets the ball right back after recovering a fumble at the Kalaheo 45. At this point, they’re just a couple of plays away from closing this thing out, especially with the running clock.
8:13: Kaimuki was continuing to methodically run out the clock on Kalaheo before fumbling on the Mustangs’ 37 yard line. A brief scuffle between a couple of players on both sides breaks out but it’s put to an early end. The game resumes after offsetting personal foul penalties.
8:07: Neufeldt is picked off in the end zone by Moananu. Kaimuki gets the ball back on its own 20 after the touchback, around nine minutes and counting.
8:04: Neufeldt is back in at QB for the Mustangs, racking up some yards on the ground and leading Kalaheo to the Kaimuki 26. A Kaimuki player is down but it looks like it’s just a cramp.
FOURTH QUARTER
8:00: End of the third. Kaimuki leads 37-0 with running clock in effect.
7:56: Touchdown Kaimuki. Maiava finds Koby Moananu for a 16-yard score. Moananu then finds Pfeiffer-Kekoa for the two-point conversion. Kaimuki leads 37-0 with 2:03 left in the third.
7:51: Kaimuki forces another Kalaheo punt and has a chance to enable the running clock with 4:25 left in the third on its own 25.
7:42: Kaimuki turns it over on downs at the Kalaheo 31, 8:16 left in the third. A couple of critical drops for the Bulldogs on that last possession.
7:40: Kaluna returns the ensuing kickoff to the Kalaheo 33 with 9:23 left in the third.
7:39: Kalaheo shows a different look offensively and feeds Neufeldt the ball on some direct snaps. It gets them a first down but not another one after it returns to its more traditional look with Akiu behind center. Kalaheo punter Jack Lemonds can’t handle a bad snap and facing his own end zone, boots the ball past it for a safety. Kaimuki lead is now 29-0 with 9:30 left in the third.
7:32: Kaimuki coughs the ball up and Kalaheo recovers on its own 24 with 11:20 left in the third.
7:30: Kaimuki will start from the Kalaheo 40 after a nice return by Kaluna.
THIRD QUARTER
7:11: Both teams let the clock run out to end the half. Kaimuki leads 27-0 and will receive to start the third quarter.
7:05: There he is again. Asuega-Fualaau with a one-yard score, his third rushing touchdown and it’s only the second quarter. Kawamoto’s PAT is good and the Kaimuki lead is 27-0 with 2:05 left in the half.
7:01: Kaimuki’s D-line continues to stifle the Kalaheo run game, forcing another three-and-out. A shanked punt gives the Bulldogs the ball back at the Kalaheo 22 with 4:05 left in the second.
6:56: Asuega-Fualaau is starting to heat up with consecutive rushes of 26 and 12 yards, the latter being a touchdown for Kaimuki. He’s now up to 89 yards on nine carries and two scores. Kawamoto’s PAT is no good, but the Bulldogs now have a comfortable 20-0 lead over the Mustangs with 6:04 left in the half.
6:54: Kaimuki’s defensive line has been stout all game, allowing a negative amount of rushing yards to Kalaheo so far. After the Mustangs punt, the Bulldogs will take over from the Kalaheo 38 with 6:44 left in the half.
6:49: Touchdown Bulldogs. Naomas Asuega-Fualaau punches it in from three yards out. Kawamoto’s PAT is good and Kaimuki’s lead is now 14-0 with 8:07 left in the second quarter.
6:44: On the very next play, Kaimuki recovers a fumble at the Kaimuki 38. Tough break for the Mustangs with 9:26 left in the half.
6:42: Akiu and Jordan Neufeldt appeared to have connected on a 57-yard touchdown, but it’s negated by a penalty.
6:39: Kaimuki commits a string of penalties of its own and punts. Kalaheo will start from its own 20 after the punt with 10:55 left in the second.
SECOND QUARTER
6:33: End of the first. Kaimuki has a fresh set of downs from its own 49 after Maiava and Kaluna connect for a 16-yard gain as time expires.
6:27: Kalaheo can’t manage to get any further after a couple of penalties, but a nice punt pins Kaimuki at its own 18 with 2:29 left in the first.
6:23: Kalaheo calls timeout on second-and-long from the Kaimuki 44, the furthest they’ve gotten across the field offensively thus far before a false start penalty.
6:20: Maiava is picked off by Riis Webber, who takes it to the Kalaheo 48 with 5:33 left in the first.
6:18: Kalaheo goes three and out. The Bulldogs start from their own 42 with 7:04 left in the first after the punt.
6:13: Touchdown Bulldogs. Jayden Maiava‘s first pass attempt is a 20-yard DIME to Kaulana Kaluna on third-and-14. One of those throws in double coverage where only his guy could get it. Kurt Kawamoto‘s PAT is good and the Kaimuki lead is 7-0 in the early going.
6:07: Kalaheo quarterback Isaiah Akiu is intercepted by Blade Pfieffer-Kekoa, who returns it to the Kaimuki 31 with 10:45 left in the first.
6:03: Kaimuki will kick off to start this game. Kalaheo will start from its own 29 after the return.
FIRST QUARTER
5:45 p.m.: Good evening from a beautiful day here at Farrington’s Skippa Diaz field. We’re right on schedule for a 6 p.m. kickoff between the Mustangs and Bulldogs.
