Cosbie learned from some NFL masters

By Nick Abramo on December 25, 2015

Ever notice that Doug Cosbie is reserved? Unemotional? Ever wonder where he got it from? Well, it might be his natural personality. But, as a football coach, he certainly learned a bit of it from two of the NFL’s greatest coaches ever. Figuratively speaking, think of Cosbie donning the late Tom Landry‘s fedora and things may get a little clearer. Huh? Right? Right. That explains it all. Cosbie played 10 seasons under the unflappable Landry, so it’s obvious that more […]

Cosbie steps down at Kamehameha

By Hawaii Prep World on December 23, 2015

Doug Cosbie informed Kamehameha on Wednesday that he is stepping down as head football coach, effectively immediately, Hawaii Prep World has learned. Cosbie went 19-9 in three seasons at Kamehameha but was 10-7 in his last two years after going 9-2 in 2013. The Warriors finished 2-4 in the ILH in 2015, marking their first losing season in league since 2007. A phone call and text to Cosbie were not immediately returned. He later texted the Star-Advertiser to say he […]

But I’ll update the score. FIRST QUARTER LL 4, SC 0, 6:04. LL called […]

Ikei’s upset at Officials was no surprise to coach

By Nick Abramo on December 19, 2015

Hawaii wrestling fans might want to remember the name Tiare Lynn Ikei. Ikei, the daughter of well-known strength and conditioning coach Chad Ikei and the sister of two-time state champion Chance Ikei, is a Kaiser freshman and she knocked off top-seeded Brianna Leong of Leilehua in the 102-pound quarterfinals during the first day of the Hawaii Wrestling Officials Association Scholarship Tournament at the Leilehua gym Friday. “We expected her to be in the finals this week,” Cougars coach Mike Kim […]

Kamehameha’s Blaysen Terukina and Leilehua’s Liam Corbett are two wins away from their third straight Officials titles. Terukina made it through the first day of the 132-pound bracket with a pin of Kailua’s Koalii Santos in 1:10 before pinning Roosevelt’s Zachary Foster in 4:25. Things get harder in the tournament’s toughest bracket, though, with Pac-Five’s Joseph Fong waiting in the semifinals and either Antonio Ruiz of Moanalua or top seed Shandon Ilaban-Totten looming in the title match. Corbett, Hawaiiprepworld’s top […]

Kamehameha’s Alo firm atop girls wrestling P4P

By Jerry Campany on December 17, 2015

Judging by the season’s first girls pound-for-pound rankings, this weekend’s Officials tournament will be sorely lacking in star power. The top three on the list will all sit the tournament out, with No. 1 Teshya Alo of Kamehameha the most obvious omission. Alo has a bigger tournament in mind, though, beginning the U.S. Open for a chance to reach the Olympic Trials. Laleilei Mataafa will not appear, nor will Iolani sophomore Teniya Alo. She is recovering from an injury and […]
