On this date in 1990, Hawaii athletic directors came up with a formula to determine league representation in state tournaments. The goal of the formula was to straighten out inconsistent standards, dividing the number of teams in a league by the number of teams in the state. There were way more proposals killed than accepted, including adding a 220-pound weight class in wrestling. The measure failed for the second straight year but was approved five years later.
