OIA softball all-stars announced

Kaiser’s Seli Aholelei earned the OIA’s player of the year in the East in voting of coaches around the league. Aholelei, who pitches and plays shortstop, led the Cougars into the state tournament where she collected four hits and pitched in both of her team’s games including a complete-game loss in 10 innings to Kamehameha. Labasan is ILH softball player of the year

Maryknoll pitcher and leadoff batter Shearyna Labasan was named as the player of the year for ILH softball, the league announced recently. The Spartans’ John Uekawa was picked as coach of the year after the team finished as league runner-up and made it to the state Division I semifinals. Every impressive win was followed by a comment from the coach that they could have done better. Interesting. And effective. Gusman returns for Nanakuli’s third D-II title

After spending most of the week in the hospital, Ricky Gusman was discharged in time to return to the Nanakuli dugout to watch the Golden Hawks capture a third straight Division II state softball championship on Friday. Gusman said he felt chest pains on Monday morning and went to the hospital later in the day. He was told he’d suffered a mild heart attack and was admitted to the Queen’s Medical Center and had three stents inserted to clear blockages. […]

Along with their work behind the plate, the winning catchers in the Division II semifinals of the DataHouse/HHSAA State Softball Championships helped propel their teams to Friday’s title game with their production in the batters box. In Thursday’s first semifinal, Nanakuli sophomore Kaila Burnett went 4-for-5 and drove in four runs in the Golden Hawks’ 11-2 win over Kamehameha-Hawaii at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
