Kaimuki knows what to expect on Kauai this time

By Nick Abramo on November 21, 2019

Kaimuki senior guard Daniel Moefu-Tautofi was walking with a cane and wearing street clothes Wednesday at practice on the school field. He was all smiles. The senior and his teammates are getting another chance in the Division II semifinals of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships. The Bulldogs (10-2) are out to avenge a 20-12 loss a year ago. That happened at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue and it came at the hands of the Kapaa Warriors. Those Warriors (7-1), […]

Lahainaluna gets a break before Division II football tournament

By Jerry Campany on November 2, 2019

Defending state champion Lahainaluna will await the winner between Roosevelt and Kamehameha-Hawaii to begin its defense in the state Division II football tournament. The Lunas will host the winner of that game on Nov. 23. The Lunas have played a state tournament game at home twice and won both, beating Kaimuki 7-0 in 2015 and Roosevelt 48-10 last year. Kamehameha-Hawaii, which hosts Roosevelt on Nov. 16 for the right to travel to Maui, has not been nearly as successful on […]

Losses lifted Kaimuki to list of OIA winners

By Christian Shimabuku on October 27, 2019

The midday sun beamed on the Kaimuki sideline from the start of its biggest game of the year. With a 2 p.m. kickoff and temperatures rising to as high 96 degrees on the field, the mauka side of Aloha Stadium and its lack of shade was not kind to the Bulldogs. David Tautofi’s squad didn’t have a choice but to gut it out. With just 26 players suited up, Kaimuki rose to the sweltering occasion and pulled out a 27-24 […]

He put his arm down to break his fall, and was worried immediately he might have broke something. The play ended with Keith Hallers intercepting a pass off a tip by teammate Sione Taufa, sending the Kaimuki fans in the stadium on their feet in jubilation. The volume went from […]

This might not be the final chapter, but if it is, the Kaimuki Bulldogs are doing all they can to send coach David Tautofi out with a championship parade. The spotlight sensations like Jayden Maiava, Naomas Asuega-Fualaau and Koby Moananu delivered big in Kaimuki’s 33-17 win over Kaiser — the same team that handed the Bulldogs their lone defeat in OIA Division II regular-season play — on Friday night at the Cougars’ field in the OIA D-II semifinals.
