OIA sets new Red and Blue football conferences

Oahu Interscholastic Association football will have a a different look in the fall. As it does every two years, the league realigned its Red and Blue conferences and officially moved two teams up to Division I and two teams down to D-II. Latu visits Oregon State; 2 trips planned

Kahuku’s Hirkley Latu enjoyed his official visit to Oregon State last week, according to his father, Peni Latu. Latu is being recruited as a hybrid linebacker/strong safety, Peni Latu said. Hirkley has official visits lined up to Utah State this week and BYU next week. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Latu was an outside linebacker for the part Red Raiders’ Division I state championship team and made the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State first team. UH coaches visit Leilehua’s Muti

University of Hawaii football defensive coordinator and Kevin Lempa and defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa went to Leilehua’s wrestling practice last week to reconfirm the school’s interest in Mules defensive lineman Netane Muti. Muti, who was recruited by former UH head coach Norm Chow, previously gave his oral commitment to Hawaii. “The new staff (under new head coach Nick Rolovich) came to meet me,” Muti said. ‘Iolani boys up to No. 2; Punahou boys, girls drop

‘Iolani jumped two spots to No. 2 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser boys basketball Top 10 this week. The Raiders have been as high as No. 1, but are now one spot behind the Kaiser Cougars. Saint Louis, which suffered a 73-63 loss to Kamehameha on Friday, dropped one spot to No. 2. Kamehameha rose two spots to No. 4, and Punahou fell three spaces to No. 6. Video: Kato moves up to beat Terukina at 132

Punahou’s Cameron Kato made the leap up one weight class on Saturday and beat 132-pound state-title contender Blaysen Terukina of Kamehameha, 10-8, in the final of the ILH open wrestling tournament. Both have won state championships previously. Kato took the 106-pound state title two years ago and is aiming at the 126 title this year. The Iolani boys wrestling team ruled December, but coach Walden Au is quick to point out that is way in the past. The Raiders swept the Officials tournament and followed it up with gold at the Moanalua Duals, a sweep in two entirely different types of competitions that prove that they are up for anything. At this point, Interscholasatic League of Honolulu boys soccer looks like a race between three undefeated teams. Punahou has taken a small lead with a 4-0 record, and the Buffanblu are followed in the standings by ‘Iolani and Mid-Pacific, both at 3-0-1. Kamehameha, at 2-2, is also in the mix for the championship and the league’s two spots in the state tournament.
