Former Radford LB getting noticed in Vegas

By Billy Hull on May 17, 2016

Jordan Walker had spent all of his life in Hawaii. He had just won a Division II state title completing an undefeated 13-0 season with the Radford Rams, who put together one of the best defenses in recent memory. But as we’ve seen time and time again, kids have to do what they feel is in the best interests of themselves and their families, which is why Walker had to say goodbye. In January, Walker transferred from Radford to Silverado […]

By Jerry Campany on May 17, 2016

Pearl City freshman Sunshine Fontes was honored by Gatorade as the girls soccer player of the year. Fontes led the Chargers to the state title in the winter and was the Star-Advertiser’s first freshman to be named state player of the year. The Gatorade award is independent of the Star-Advertiser’s list and this is the first time in two years the two entities agreed on the player of the year. Past Star-Advertiser selections with Gatorade winners in parenthesis where it […]

Campbell rides Alo and Cervantes to crown

By Nick Abramo on May 14, 2016

If there is one rule the Honolulu Star-Advertiser goes by when it comes to picking a most valuable player, it’s that there can only be one. Having two people share that award is something to be avoided. If it’s a close call, the editors in charge will say, “Pick one.” So it was kinda funny when Star-Advertiser reporter Jason Kaneshiro looked over at me near the end of Campbell’s 12-2 win over Kapolei in the Division I state softball final […]

The preseason schedule for Oahu teams (if the proposed OIA-ILH alliance does not get voted in, and, at this […]

Kapolei storms back to reach state final

By Jason Kaneshiro on May 13, 2016

It took five innings, but Kapolei found its timing just in time to put together a rally that propelled the Hurricanes into Friday’s title game of the DataHouse/HHSAA Division I Softball Championship. Outside of Sadie Kapaku-You’s swing on the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth inning in Thursday’s semifinal game, Kapolei was kept off balance by Pearl City junior Tyanna Kaaialii’s offspeed offerings while the Chargers executed at the plate to take a 5-1 lead. Kapaku-You’s home run […]
