Higgins steps down as Kaiser FB coach

Cameron Higgins stepped down as the Kaiser football head coach recently, according to trusted Hawaii Prep World and Honolulu Star-Advertiser sources. The Cougars have been without a head coach this spring and the school has not posted the opening yet, according to the sources. Richard Torres, an assistant under Higgins, has been running spring drills and workouts. It’s unknown whether Torres will be a candidate for the open position. Sabers finish No. 22 in national Top 25

Campbell did not go undefeated, but if it had, it’s a good bet the Sabers would be in the Top 10 nationally. The Sabers (18-1) finished at No. 22 in the CBS/MaxPreps Xcellent 25 softball rankings after winning their second straight Division I state championship last week. Kahuku’s Aliki Vimahi had an impressive showing at the Nike Opening regional event in Oakland, Calif., over the weekend and was rewarded with his 10th scholarship offer. Virginia offered the 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end who can be seen at the end of this video participating in some one-on-one drills at the Nike event. MPI’s Oley named Gatorade POTY

Mid-Pacific senior Alex Oley was named the Gatorade Hawaii Baseball Player of the Year on Tuesday. Oley is the ninth MPI player to win the Gatorade honor in the 31-year history of the award. Kamehameha’s Millwood is ILH’s top player

Kamehameha sophomore Dallas Millwood was named the ILH softball most valuable player on Thursday. Millwood led the Warriors to an 11-2-1 regular season and an ILH championship before losing in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. ‘Iolani’s Dean Yonamine, in his first year coaching the Raiders’ softball team, was named the coach of the year after guiding ‘Iolani to an 11-3 regular season record and second-place finish. Stack to make decision by the end of summer

The nation’s No. 1-ranked kicker wants to make his college decision by the end of the summer. Kamehameha’s Adam Stack, who is rated as the top high school kicker in the country for 2017 by Chris Sailer Kicking, plans on attending a few camps this summer and wants to finish the recruiting process before the start of his senior year. The OIA released its softball all-star teams as voted on by league coaches today. Kaiser’s Seli Aholelei repeated as the OIA East player of the year while Roosevelt’s Clay Okamura took home coach of the year honors. Out West, Kapolei senior Laugatausala Pedebone earned player of the year honors and Campbell’s Michael Hermosura was the coach of the year.
