Bud Scott left a great legacy at Punahou

The Punahou basketball community lost a great one recently with the death of Charles “Bud” Scott on June 22. Scott, the winningest coach in the long and storied history of the Buffanblu hoops program, was 88. He also coached at Laupahoehoe and Hilo on the Big Island, and finished with a career mark of 224-59. His involvement in Hawaii high school athleteics spanned from 1952 to 1991. Lagat-Ramos takes over Kaiser girls hoops

Hoops Artistry founder Brianna Lagat-Ramos accepted the position of head coach for the varsity girls basketball team for Kaiser for the upcoming year. Lagat-Ramos has been an assistant coach at Kalani and Moanalua and handled the JV team for Moanalua. The UH-Manoa graduate takes over for Simon Bitanga, who held the post for the past decade but was the subject of an investigation last year. Gerald Welch returns ‘home’ to Saint Louis

Gerald Welch spent last season as an assistant coach to Vavae Tata for the state champion Kahuku football team. This season, he will be back home, so to speak. June Jones to instruct at Kapolei FB clinic

Former University of Hawaii football head coach June Jones will be an instructor at a clinic on Saturday, July 16, at Kapolei High School. Jones is the new offensive coordinator for the Kapolei varsity team under Darren Hernandez. The clinic will run from 6-8 p.m., and it is geared toward every offensive position — quarterbacks, running backs, slotbacks, receivers and offensive line. ILH sets FB schedule with postseason change

The Interscholastic League of Honolulu varsity football schedule is out. The playoff format has changed. In 2016, all four Division I teams make the playoffs instead of three. In D-II, all three teams make the playoffs instead of no playoff system. The last date listed on the schedule, Thursday, Oct. 27, is for D-I and D-II playoff games, if necessary.
