Hoops Artistry founder Brianna Lagat-Ramos accepted the position of head coach for the varsity girls basketball team for Kaiser for the upcoming year.

Lagat-Ramos has been an assistant coach at Kalani and Moanalua and handled the JV team for Moanalua. The UH-Manoa graduate takes over for Simon Bitanga, who held the post for the past decade but was the subject of an investigation last year.

Kaiser made the state tournament three straight years under Bitanga (2011-2013) and reached the state semifinals last year before losing to eventual champion Konawaena 63-25. That team had seven seniors including top scorers Roselynn Shimaoka and Brooke Ho and returns two juniors. Shimaoka was Kaiser’s first Fab 15 selection since Sharde Pratt in 2005.

Seems like Kaiser should switch their nickname to Na Menehune, all these former Moanalua Coaches ending up in Hawaii Kai.

Who knows what the investigation was all about?

Not many. I heard some of Coach Simon’s assistants and one community league parent who is known as a screamer who stacks his HK teams and runs up the score against inferior teams applied.
