2016 Star-Advertiser All-State football team

The 2016 Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State football teams were released in Sunday’s newspaper. Saint Louis quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the offensive player of the year and Kahuku’s Kekaula Kaniho is the defensive player of the year. Some post-game thoughts now that we’re eight games into the ‘Iolani Prep Classic. Dr. Phillips (Fla.) looked reasonably solid in a 59-38 win over Waiakea to start today’s games. They’re always solid, athletic and one of the better teams in America. Are they up to the level of Oak Hill (101-28 winner over Kapolei) or Findlay Prep (89-39 over Mid-Pacific)? After helping Kahuku finish 11-2 this season with an appearance in their second straight state final, defensive backs Kekaula Kaniho and Stokes Nihipali-Botelho along with quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava are in the running for USA Today’s season-ending Top Star award.
