After helping Kahuku finish 11-2 this season with an appearance in their second straight state final, defensive backs Kekaula Kaniho and Stokes Nihipali-Botelho along with quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava are in the running for USA Today’s season-ending Top Star award.

Each week during the season, readers voted on a weekly Top Star performer. Now, all 15 are up for the season award.

You can vote for any of the three Red Raiders here.

Nihipali-Botelho won the first weekly award for the weekend of Sept. 2-3 when he had two interceptions and kicked six extra points in a 44-0 shutout of Campbell.

Kaniho won the award for the weekend of Oct. 20-22 when he returned an interception for a touchdown for the third time in four games in a 38-0 shutout of Waianae in the OIA playoffs.

Maiava won the award the following week when he threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more scores in a 44-8 win over Farrington in the OIA title game.

Voting will run until next Thursday at 7 a.m. Hawaii time.

ILH just be happy for the boys, it’s all for the kids. St.Louis was the better team that night, which had kids from all over the state playing for them. So shut the hell up! Happy Holidays

I’ve tracked a portion of hawaii prep Worlds blog comments of articles they have wrote about high school football Especially pertaining to our red raiders and all I have to say is you all are a bunch of computer cowards! It’s so sad how you all Come On here and voice ur opinions but don’t Own up To ur commmets in person! It’s sad that a Lot of you Belittle these young athletes! Please use your real names so we all can see how athletic you all where in high school And if you had these privileges of being in the social Media like all This scholar athletes! A lot you don’t only judge our red raiders but every team in general like your all professional sport analyst! All I can say is if you want to judge my child (sol-jay Maiava), use your real name And we can talk story anytime! We welcome input to how our son can improve his athleticism! It’s just really heart breaking to hear those adults that are hating on minors and can’t even say it using their personal Identities! Yes our team lost the state championship And none of our boys are making and giving excuses! Bottom line St. Louis out played us! We win some,we lose some! We learn from our loses which makes us all stronger as a team and on an individual Level! I hope and pray you all have a change of heart towards all these young athletes especially the 3 in the runnings for this award (which the 3 boys don’t even care who wins) if any of you knew these 3 boys on a personal Level you would never be saying all those negative comments you are saying on here! Happy holidays! Here’s to a more positive year! Sincerely Sol-jays mother!

Let us wish the best for all our Hawaii athletes. Athletics provide many life lessons that goes beyond the field. Happy holidays to all. As for Sol-jay’s mother, Michigan University is a great academic institution, in addition to athletics. What a wonderful opportunity for Sol-jay!
