It wouldn’t be a normal day anymore unless a BCS university offered an island player a football scholarship.
That’s no exaggeration, not since the winter and, now, spring season. This morning, Ole Miss made a scholarship offer to Mililani junior Vavae Malepeai.
Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance shared the news on its Facebook page.
The updated offer list for the 6-foot, 200-pound junior: Colorado, Washington, Cal, Hawaii, Utah State, Washington State, Nevada, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Tulsa, Stanford, UCLA, Ole Miss.
(Mahalo to Skye M for the update. I did some research and found confirmation on all 11 offers. Coach Rod York also confirmed on the offers, but didn’t know about Tulsa — where former UH and Radford DB Brian Norwood is a coach — and Ole Miss until he saw it on Facebook earlier today.)
The Star-Advertiser all-state first-team selection rushed for 1,244 yards and 23 touchdowns on 220 carries last season. It was his second season in a row of more than 1,200 rushing yards. His 43 career TDs are 13 short of record-holder Joe Igber of ‘Iolani.
