Vavae Malepeai is becoming one of the most heavily recruited island running backs in recent memory.

Vanderbilt made the Mililani junior a football scholarship offer on Sunday, becoming the seventh school to declare its explicit interest in the 6-foot, 200-pound all-state performer. Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance shared the news on its Facebook page.

Malepeai’s other offers are from Colorado, Washington, Cal, Hawaii, Utah State and Washington State. He rushed for 1,244 yards and 23 touchdowns on 220 carries last season. It was his second season in a row of more than 1,200 rushing yards. His 43 career TDs are 13 short of record-holder Joe Igber of ‘Iolani.
