By Billy Hull on January 17, 2018

The Kaiser and Kalani boys soccer teams have engaged in a memorable rivalry through the years, especially recently as not just two of the better teams in the OIA East, but the entire state. The Falcons won the state title in 2013 and advanced to the state final in 2015, losing to Mililani. The Cougars beat the Falcons in the OIA third-place game a year ago, and then beat Hilo, ILH champion ‘Iolani and Baldwin to advance to the state […]

Kaiser’s Yasue juggles 2 winter sports

By Nick Abramo on January 16, 2018

Varsity soccer is a major commitment of a player’s time and energy, and so is varsity basketball. So, Brandon Yasue is a pretty committed individual. The Kaiser senior athlete is a goalkeeper in soccer and a forward in basketball this winter, and time management is one of his priorities. “It gets stressful at times,” Yasue said on Saturday before a soccer match at home against Roosevelt. “I’m not going to lie, but if you have so much passion for both […]

By Hawaii Prep World on January 9, 2018

For the second time in three years, ‘Iolani pulled out a miraculous last-minute win over Punahou in an ILH girls soccer contest on Tuesday at Punahou. After a long throw-in that was played back out, ‘Iolani sophomore Marea Lee was on the receiving end of a Taylor Arakaki pass into the box and deflected the ball off of her head and shoulder that crossed the goal line for the win in the 80th minute. The victory pushed ‘Iolani (7-1-1) ahead […]

Punahou takes control of ILH boys soccer race

By Christian Shimabuku on December 21, 2017

Thursday afternoon’s boys soccer match between Saint Louis and Punahou was an early battle for first place in the ILH, as the Buffanblu and Crusaders both entered undefeated with no ties. The contest proved to be a true measuring stick for the Crusaders, who made the move back to Division I after appearing in last season’s HHSAA Division II finals. Punahou, meanwhile, is the two-time defending state champion in D-I. In the end, Punahou’s experience and composure proved too much […]

Pearl City showed why it’s a nationally ranked girls soccer team Friday night. The Chargers, who are ranked No. 45 in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com., soared out of the gate for a big lead but eventually had to hang on in the late stages for a 3-2 home victory over Mililani. The Trojans didn’t go down easy by any stretch of the imagination, pounding away for a possible tying goal that never came in a dominant stretch during the final […]
