Video: Waipahu vs. McKinley

By Paul Honda on October 13, 2013

The Marauders like their black flag. They like to hike it up after a victory. A win over McKinley would’ve qualified as a big win, but it wasn’t to be.

Update: McKinley 36, Waipahu 15, final

By Paul Honda on October 11, 2013

First Quarter 5:54 – The Tigers score on their second series, a 48-yard bomb from Mathias Tuitele-Iafeta to Tyrell Tuiasosopo. Two surprises here. One, Waipahu had solo coverage on Tuiasosopo, one of the best WR talents in the state. Two, MTI threw it a long, high ways. His arm strength is way beyond what I expected. I saw him throw a play-action lob for a TD recently, but this long stuff is a surprise. PAT kick was blocked. Tigers 6, […]

First Quarter The Tigers score immediately on Gerime Bradley’s 98-yard kickoff return. McKinley 6, Kailua 0. Second Quarter Bradley is active again. He’s playing defensive back, as usual, and running back. He just picked off a pass by Kailua’s Noah Auld to end the first quarter. Tigers driving inside the Kailua 10-yard line. 11:09 – Mathias Tuitele-Iafeta is in the shotgun, runs a play-action and a perfect 7-yard lob to Pono Kini for McKinley’s second touchdown. MTI’s a lefty and […]

Kailua, McKinley make Aloha Stadium return

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 2, 2013

Appearances at Aloha Stadium were once fairly common for Kailua and McKinley. But not so much in recent years. Thursday’s meeting between the Surfriders and Tigers in the first game of an OIA Red East doubleheader will mark the first time they’ve played in Halawa since 2005. Kailua’s last game at Aloha Stadium was a 24-6 loss to Castle on Sept. 9, 2005. McKinley played there a couple of weeks later and lost to Farrington 23-0. Kailua is 39-42-3 at […]

Video: #5 Kahuku vs. McKinley

By Paul Honda on September 22, 2013

Part 1 Part 2 Mid-season. Sometimes progress and development mean so much more than wins and losses. The Kahuku Red Raiders showed on this night they have the will and the skill to advance downfield with the timing and touch of quarterback Tuli Wily-Matagi. They do have a solid corps of receivers. It just took nine men in the box by McKinley for Big Red to put that aerial show on display. The Tigers played with pride, as usual, but […]
