On this date in 2004, Kamehameha won its first state football championship. The Warriors have collected plenty of Prep Bowls, the last in 1976, but Kamehameha beat Leilehua 28-7 in front of a crowd of 17,757 for its first modern title. On this date in 1903, Kamehameha had nothing left to play for but still produced a victory. The Warriors, who won the football title a week earlier, beat the High School (now McKinley) 10-0 on the Punahou campus. The teams took turns fumbling the ball to each other in the first half. On this date in 1983, Pac-Five coach Don Botelho thought he knew everything Kamehameha’s Kalani Perry was capable of doing with his feet. He just didn’t expect him to use them to punt his team into submission. Perry weaved through the Wolf Pack defense for a 48-yard score and then buried Pac-Five with a 56-yard punt to the 3-yard line in a 16-0 win in front of 8,500 people at Aloha Stadium. Utah State is taking the plunge for Tausili Akana. The Aggies made a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-4, 210-pound sophomore from Kamehameha. Akana has spent this fall season playing for Wasatch in Utah, just a two-hour drive from the USU campus. The defensive end/outside linebacker now has seven offers. Oregon State offered sophomore Tausili Akana a football scholarship on Wednesday. Hawaii, BYU, Utah, Arizona State and UNLV made offers to the 6-foot-4, 210-pound defensive end/linebacker earlier. Oregon State assistant coaches Jake Cookus and Legi Suiauona have been in contact with Akana, who transferred from Kamehameha to Wasatch (Utah) in July. Tausili Akana’s name is showing up on recruiters’ whiteboards, but he is simply happy to be playing football. The Kamehameha sophomore collected his fifth scholarship offer over the weekend.
