ON THIS DATE IN 1903: Kamehameha wraps up title season

On this date in 1903, Kamehameha had nothing left to play for but still produced a victory.

The Warriors, who won the football title a week earlier, beat the High School (now McKinley) 10-0 on the Punahou campus.

The teams took turns fumbling the ball to each other in the first half. Patten finally scored the game’s first touchdown in the fourth quarter to start the celebration. He played on the line in the win over Punahou, but Coach Hopwood opted to shuffle the lineup in the season-ender.

Kamehameha played the High School to a tie in the first game and beat Punahou twice, 5-0 and 29-10.

Mahalo. I’ve been trying to do a compilation of all the Kamehameha football championship teams. it’s a work in progress and viewable here:

The 1903 team is the first, right?

In any case, I’ve got 1946 to 2009 (the last Warrior championship).

Apparently, there are eight more teams to go after 1903 and before 1946.

    Aloha!

This requires the sleuthing talents of the Mad Librarian.
