If these numbers hold up, there will be one slightly giddy new team in the Top 10. After two months — the first day of tryouts for girls hoops was Nov. 1 — they might finally crack the poll. Wow, this was an ugly typo on my part. In a game story from Friday’s edition, I wrote (somehow) that Mid-Pacific shot “2 percent” in its 45-38 win over Maryknoll for the St. Francis/Merv Lopes Classic girls title. MPI was 18-for-60, which is 30 percent, not 2 percent. The Owls have come a long way since that blowout loss at ‘Iolani last month. The Punahou Invitational Basketball Tournament was on the ropes in the past 18 hours. Last night, the first two games were moved to Maryknoll, across the street, when high humidity made the hardwood floor at Punahou’s Hemmeter Fieldhouse unplayable. The hope was that the later games would be played at Punahou.
