Star-Bulletin reporter Paul Honda made sure he got to Kapolei early when the Hurricanes hosted Leilehua in September, hoping to have plenty of time to soak in the atmosphere and check out what might be the lushest patch of grass on the island. No. 4 Leilehua 29, Kailua 13 As the lights flickered on and off at Hugh Yoshida Stadium, so did Leilehua’s chances at a state-tournament berth. Upset-minded Kailua proved to be a legitimate threat to upset the Mules, but CJ Bailey’s 165 all-purpose yards proved to be too much in a 29-13 win last night in the quarterfinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red conference playoffs. FB: Waianae players suspended

Waianae running back Keoni Napierala-Rose have been suspended for Friday night’s playoff game against Castle. Napierala-Rose was involved in an on-campus brawl on Tuesday. Four other football players were involved and also suspended. The Seariders host Castle on Friday night in an Oahu interscholastic Association Red Conference quarterfinal. Napierala-Rose has scored seven touchdowns rushing and five TDs receiving this season.

Administrators are trying to piece together what happened, and until they decide on who will be suspended, Waianae players are moving on. The reeling Saint Louis football team dropped out of the top five of the Star-Bulletin’s latest high school football poll, moving from No. 4 to No. 8 after a loss to Punahou knocked them out of contention for the ILH title and the state berth that comes with it.
