The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame announced today the establishment of the Polynesian High School Player of the Year Award and 2017 watch list. The award will be presented annually to the most outstanding Polynesian senior high school football player in the country. Twelve players from Hawaii made the initial watch list of 52 kids. Despite a successful three-team scrimmage against McKinley and Aiea on Saturday, the Kaiser varsity football team has canceled its first scheduled game. Roosevelt football coach Kui Kahooilihala informed Hawaii Prep World on Monday that Kaiser coach Arnold Martinez called him on Sunday to say that the Cougars do not have enough varsity players to safely play in that nonleague game scheduled for Friday at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. Seabury Hall is getting some 11-man football experience. The private school on Maui has been fielding an 8-man football team in the Maui Interscholastic League since the sport began there in 2013.
