You never know when a kicker is going to be called on to decide a football game, so it helps to have a good one on your high school team.

Punahou never seems to have a bad one, and according to Buffanblu coach Kale Ane, this year is no different.

You could actually call Punahou “Kicker U.” and it might stick. Within recent years, Kaimi Fairbairn has gone from kicking at Punahou to doing so at UCLA. Jet Toner is another example of a Buffanblu booter going to the Pac-12. He’s now at Stanford.

During a preseason interview recently, Ane was asked who would be the place-kicker for 2017.

“Tim Horn,” he said. “He’s a good kicker. He is following in the footsteps of Kaimi and Jet. He’s only going to be a junior, but I’m really excited about his ability to kick. He can kick it deep or he can kick it to key spots and he’ll also be doing the punting for us and I’m really happy we’ve got him.”

Punahou was picked as the No. 3 team in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s preseason Top 10. They’re looking for their first Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship since 2014 this fall.

Ane raved about his offensive line, calling it one of the best Punahou has ever had in our preview story on the Buffanblu. To read the story that ran in today’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser, click here.
