VIDEO: “Kalihi Bowl” goes Kamehameha’s way

By Paul Honda on September 23, 2018

The “Kalihi Bowl” has often boiled down to a battle of wills in the trenches. No. 6 Kamehameha prevailed in this matchup with No. 9 Farrington by producing two 100-yard rushers, Reino Bush and Alec Serrao, in a 32-21 victory. Kamehameha's Reino Bush and Alec Serrao both went over 100 yards rushing against Farrington on Friday, the first time two Warriors broke the century mark in the same game against an OIA school since Sam Parker and William Ahina at […]

Punahou’s Liufau causes major problems for Campbell

By Nick Abramo on September 22, 2018

It might be the flowing hair flopping back and forth, but Punahou’s Marist Liufau sure looks like a blur when he turns it on with intense closing speed on a defender. Liufau has been a force as a Punahou outside linebacker for three seasons now and he dialed up another choice performance Saturday night in the third-ranked Buffanblu’s 43-14 victory over No. 5 Campbell in Ewa Beach. No score in the first quarter? No problem. Leave it to Liufau. After […]

St. Francis’ Akana brothers team up to knock off Kaimuki

By Kyle Sakamoto on September 22, 2018

St. Francis’ Kip Akana and sons Bubba and Chase Akana have always been together on the football field. The father has coached his sons since they were 7 or 8, according to Bubba, a senior quarterback for the Saints. “It’s getting kind of tiring because it’s been like that my whole life,” Bubba said. That might be true, but one thing that never gets tiring is winning, which is something St. Francis has done a lot of this season. The […]

Mililani’s Gabriel on verge of state passing record

By Paul Honda on September 22, 2018

Dillon Gabriel means it when he says numbers are just numbers. With kickoff between No. 5 Mililani and Waianae more than nine hours away, the Trojan senior quarterback let the question soak in. What would it mean to you and the program to pass Tua Tagovailoa and become the state’s all-time career passing record holder? Tagovailoa set his record as a senior at Saint Louis two seasons ago. Just 320 yards behind the current starting QB at Alabama, Gabriel has […]
