By Jason Kaneshiro on December 19, 2014

Even with two of its top scorers on the bench, Kalaheo advanced to the semifinals of the Pete Smith Classic with a 71-52 win over Leilehua on Thursday. Kaleb Gilmore and Kupaa Harrison haven’t suited up in the Mustangs’ two wins in the tournament due to injuries, but third-ranked Kalaheo got ample production from the rest of the roster against Anuenue on Tuesday and again in Thursday’s quarterfinal game at Kalaheo Gym. Senior guard Alec MacLeod went 8-for-10 from the […]

The Governors won 58-54 in overtime at the Pete Smith Classic. “Farrington’s a great team and we tried to play with a lot of pride,” Damien coach Alvin Stephenson Jr. said. “They’re right across the street from us and it was like the big brother playing the little brother and we wanted to try to […]

Wrestling: Week 2 pound-for-pound

By Jerry Campany on December 18, 2014

Brian Pascua of ‘Iolani might be the most improved wrestler in the state in the past year. Pascua finished fifth in both the Garner Ivey and Hawaii Officials tournaments to begin last year, but got stronger after the calendar flipped to take his first ILH title and finish second at states behind three-time champion Braydon Akeo of Mililani. He seems to have picked up where he left off last year, capturing the 152-pound class on Maui with a win over […]
