After two upset wins over nationally-ranked teams, the Konawaena Wildcats are now on the national spotlight.

The CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 25 girls basketball rankings has Konawaena at No. 21 in its latest release on Thursday. Konawaena (13-1) knocked off then-ranked Miramonte (Calif.) 63-62 and Riverdale Baptist (Calif.) 49-41 at the ‘Iolani Classic. The Wildcats lost to another ranked squad, St. Mary’s (Calif.) 68-59 in the tournament final.

St. Mary’s remained at No. 10 in the same rankings. Riverdale Baptist dropped out. McEachern (Ga.) is No. 1.

The USA Today Super 25 Expert Rankings shunned the Wildcats. While St. Mary’s is at No. 8, USA Today has Riverdale Baptist at No. 24 while Konawaena is unranked. The capsules for both St. Mary’s and Riverdale Baptist account for results against the Wildcats.

Konawaena is not mentioned among the “next 25” in the USA Today list.
