Wazzu offers scholie to ‘Iolani’s Makekau

Keoni-Kordell Makekau has his first FBS scholarship offer, and it couldn’t have come from a more pass-happy program. Washington State, coached by Mike Leach, made an offer to the ‘Iolani wide receiver this morning. Makekau had 49 receptions for 756 yards and seven touchdowns last fall to help the Raiders capture the Division II state championship. Team Aloha heading to Phoenix

The 2015 Team Aloha girls basketball roster has been selected, and it has a distinctly neighbor island flavor. Seven of the nine players, selected by team chairman Mufi Hannemann, head coach Fran Villarmia-Kahawai and assistant coach Rodney Cavaco, are from the Big Island and Maui. Kahuku chooses 5 finalists for FB coach

Kahuku is down to five finalists for the vacant head football coach job, according to sources close to the program. According to multiple sources, four candidates are confirmed. Another candidate — Ron McBride, the biggest name of the bunch — is speculation due to the fact that the information came from only one trusted Honolulu Star-Advertiser source. Kamehameha linebacker Tainoa Foster received a scholarship offer to play football for the University of Hawaii in 2016, according to his coach Doug Cosbie. Foster also tweeted the news recently. “It’s still early in the process,” Cosbie said. “He’s getting a lot of attention and they offered him during the junior days (Saturday, when juniors were invited to watch the Rainbow Warriors during spring practice). “He’s a good player and has a big upside. ‘Iolani’s Rose Huang shot a 4-under 68 to earn a victory in the ILH’s first golf tournament of the season on April 2 at Hawaii Prince Golf Club. Punahou’s Mariel Galdiano fired a 9-under 63 to win the ILH regular-season golf tournament at Leilehua Golf Course on Monday. Galdiano, who also won the league’s previous tournament at Barbers Point Golf Coure, was seven shots clear of four others. Four records set at OIA East track

Four records were broken at Saturday’s OIA Eastern Division track and field championships. Kaiser’s 4×100 relay team of Tommi Hintnaus, Kristen O’Handley, Celine Lum and Teuila Gardner set a record with a time of 50.77 seconds.
