By Nick Abramo on July 29, 2015

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is about to start his junior season as Saint Louis’ starter, and fans can get an early look Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when the Crusaders visit Kapolei for a scrimmage. But he will not be the only Tagovailoa on the field. His brother, Taulia Tagovailoa, is a freshman quarterback for the Hurricanes, and their father, Galu Tagovailoa, is a Kapolei assistant. “I don’t think Taulia’s a starter,” Tua told Hawaii Prep World at Saint Louis’ practice on […]

Mililani is not shying away from the top threats

By Nick Abramo on July 29, 2015

One resonating mantra from Mililani football coach Rod York is, “To be the best, you have to play the best.” Well, York is not resting on the Trojans’ drive to the Division I state championship a year ago. It was a historic moment for the school. No, York is still trying to improve the program by scheduling some of the top teams around. Mililani scrimmages OIA rival Leilehua — much like the Trojans did last season — at home at 7 […]

By Nick Abramo on July 28, 2015

Quarterback Justin Uahinui attended his second football practice with the Farrington Governors on Tuesday. The junior showed nimble feet during some cone drills. In the spring, he was with the Kaiser Cougars and looking impressive, guiding the offense in team drills effectively. Why the switch, which was first reported by Billy Hull on Monday? In Uahinui’s own words: “It wasn’t my decision. It was my parents’ decision. They wanted to be closer to their jobs so we moved (from Kaimuki […]

By Nick Abramo on July 28, 2015

‘Iolani football coach Wendell Look is everywhere, sort of. Wearing his hat as a Raiders athletic director, it’s not unusual to see Look at a baseball game or a golf match or standing near the exit doors at the gym for a basketball game. But on Monday, Look was right where he’s been for 25 football seasons, with his team on a semi-sweltering day during the school’s on-campus camp. The 2015 Star-Advertiser preseason Top 10 countdown began Tuesday with defending […]
