The Crusaders went from having their season possibly end on Saturday night to pulling in the No. 1 ranking for the first time in four weeks following a 30-14 victory over Punahou, which saw its three-week reign at the top come to an end. Big, Red Leather Helmets: Kahuku Smash

By Paul Honda on October 18, 2015

Pete Carill, the legendary Princeton basketball coach who used throwback offensive schemes to keep his Tigers competitive against big-time colleges, once said that putting high-flying scorers like Michael Jordan into his sets would make them even better. When Kahuku implements its traditional running lanes out of its jumbo hybrid formation — unveiled against Waianae in the OIA regular-season finale less than three weeks ago — it looks much like something out of the 1940s. Just switch out 200-pound linemen of […]

Malepeai powers Trojans into OIA semis

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 18, 2015

Vavae Malepeai and the rest of the Mililani offense did their part to help freshman Dillon Gabriel get comfortable in his first varsity start on Saturday. Mililani coach Rod York gave Gabriel the starting assignment for the Trojans’ OIA Division I quarterfinal game against Moanalua, and it helps when he can turn around and hand the ball off to one of the state’s most prolific backs. Malepeai gave Gabriel a lead to work with by breaking loose on a 70-yard […]

Head coach Eddie Klaneski‘s hair was wet after Damien wrapped up the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II championship with a 28-16 win over Pac-Five on Saturday at Aloha Stadium. It wasn’t raining, so it was most likely a Gatorade bath or some other such celebratory device that comes with winning the school’s first football title in 12 years. Cal Lee‘s hair was wet after No. 2 Saint Louis got past No. 1 Punahou 30-14 in the nightcap at the […]
