Choy, Galdiano among signees

More than 40 high school seniors, including volleyball standouts like ‘Iolani’s Bailey Choy and golf state champion Mariel Galdiano, signed with their respective colleges this morning. Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance hosted the letter-of-intent signing ceremony at the Elks Lodge of Honolulu, located on the shore of Waikiki. While the Division I side of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships is down to four Oahu teams, the Division II tournament features three of the final four residing outside of Oahu. Three-time champion Fairfax headlines the 16-team field on the boys side of the 2015 ‘Iolani Classic scheduled for Dec. 17-22. The eight-team girls tournament will be held Dec. 10-12 at ‘Iolani’s Lower Gym. The quarterback position at Damien looks to be in pretty good shape for the next two years. Although sophomore Marcus Faufata-Pedrina couldn’t lead Damien to a first-round victory over Konawaena in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships on Saturday, the Monarchs quarterback had a record-setting night against the Wildcats. Punahou wins ILH boys water polo

Punahou left no doubt who rules the pool in ILH water polo this year. The Buffanblu exploded for 15 goals while shutting out Iolani in the league championship on Saturday at Kamehameha. Zachary Lietzke led the way for the Buffanblu with six goals, followed by state swimming champion Aukai Lileikis with three and Jason Hiermath with two.
