How high will Milton and Tagovailoa fly?

By Jerry Campany on November 13, 2015

It’s not just the two best quarterbacks in the state hooking up tonight at Aloha Stadium, it’s two of the best all time. Mililani’s McKenzie Milton and Tua Tagovailoa of Saint Louis are expected to match each other score-for-score in the second semifinal of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships, leaving state records in the dust. The former Pop Warner teammates could seriously threaten 1,000 yards passing apiece if that’s what the defenses give them. Should it live up […]

Saint Louis’ Iosefa to sit against Mililani

By Paul Honda on November 13, 2015

Saint Louis will not have the services of standout linebacker Jordan Loveni Iosefa on Friday against Mililani in the semifinals of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships. The Crusaders entered the week expecting to have Iosefa back after he was suspended late in the ILH regular season. He was ejected in a second-round matchup with Punahou, then sat out the championship game against the same Punahou team. Saint Louis won that game to take the ILH title and qualify […]

Don’t forget the defenses

By Paul Honda on November 13, 2015

For all of the star power on offense in the Mililani-Saint Louis clash, the biggest question, maybe, is how both defenses will react to two potent offenses. Saint Louis’ much improved defense has two rangy, physical linebackers in Jordan Loveni Iosefa, a USC commit, and Isaac Slade-Matautia. The two playmakers bring enough heat that Saint Louis often may not need to put more than five in the box, maybe six against Mililani’s four-wide, shotgun look. But probably not seven (no […]

The orange and blue sections on both sidelines are expected to be packed. The second game at 7:30 p.m. is definitely the […]

Tata: Love, respect for Mililani, Saint Louis

By Paul Honda on November 12, 2015

Vavae Tata can’t help it. The first-year Kahuku head football coach is in the midst of an epic season as the unbeaten, top-seeded Red Raiders (11-0) head into Friday’s semifinal matchup with Waianae in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Championships at Aloha Stadium. But immediately after the Kahuku-Waianae game, OIA runner-up — and defending state champion — Mililani will take on ILH champion Saint Louis in what is one of the most anticipated semifinal matchups in tournament history. Tata has […]
