By Paul Honda on November 24, 2015

In this edition of What Have We Learned, the beginning of basketball preseason is on the mantle. Or maybe it is an altar of sacrifice, because Lord only knows the time, energy and hope that were shed in the recruitment of the magical, clutch and amazing basketball player known as Chanelle Molina. Turns out that Konawaena senior and walking triple-double threat has known for a year what she wanted. For Washington State, it is a stunningly good time to have […]

By Nick Abramo on November 23, 2015

While in the Aloha Stadium press dugout room that is usually reserved for photographers, I was writing about Radford’s 30-16 victory over Kapaa in the Division II football state championship game on Friday night. The Division I title game was in progress and Kahuku had just scored its first touchdown to make it 7-6. I got up to watch the play on the jumbotron and stayed up to watch the extra point that appeared to sail wide right. After telling […]

By Jerry Campany on November 23, 2015

Wayne Taulapapa has always been more about winning as a team than as an individual. But this season, for the first time in his career, the Buffanblu turned in their pads before turning the calendar to November so there is not much left other than individual awards. Taulapapa got a big one on Monday night, being named to the ILH first team for the third year in a row. He wasn’t the offensive MVP, but he was recognized for what […]

Kahuku makes No. 1 ranking count

By Hawaii Prep World on November 23, 2015

Kahuku’s 39-14 win over Saint Louis to claim the Division I state football title last Friday night left no doubt. It also sent a message to voters in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 rankings not to count out the OIA quite so quick. For the second year in a row, the lower-ranked OIA team knocked off the higher-ranked ILH team in the state championship to claim the final HSA No. 1 ranking of the year. In 2014, Punahou held the […]

Red Raiders are No. 9 in Pacific region

By Nick Abramo on November 23, 2015

The USA Today regional computer football rankings are a tough nut to crack. Kahuku moved into the Pacific region rankings today at No. 9 out of 10 teams. Previously, Saint Louis was at No. 9, before falling out after losing 39-14 to the Red Raiders in the Division I state title game Friday. Bishop Gorman (13-0) of Las Vegas is No. 1, and the Liberty Patriots (10-1) of Henderson, Nev., is No. 7. The Patriots played two Hawaii teams — beating […]
