Hilo’s Kahaunaele: a ‘special’ special ed kid

By Nick Abramo on May 10, 2016

So you think you’re so smart. Not you, necessarily. The above line is just a general saying that could be applied to many people (including you and me) who special education students call “regular” students or people. Haha, that’s a good one. Arnold Kahaunaele, a 16-year-old sophomore from Hilo, is a special education student, but he is about as “regular” as they come. He probably just doesn’t quite know it. With ease, he calls nonspecial ed students “regular.” There really […]

By Nick Abramo on May 9, 2016

Tony Saffery and the Kapolei Hurricanes have experience being the top seed from the Oahu Interscholastic Association at the state tournament, but it was 11 years ago. So that means the last time his softball team was league champions, the girls on the team this season were between the ages of 3 and 7. The Hurricanes are the top-seeded team and have a bye in the Division I first round of the DataHouse/HHSAA Softball State Championships that start Tuesday. On […]

VIDEO: Kiffin visits Hawaii to watch Tagovailoa

By Nick Abramo on May 6, 2016

Tua Tagovailoa is orally committed to Alabama, and from all accounts at this time, he will likely sign on the dotted line with the Crimson Tide when national letter of intent day comes around in February. But, as everybody knows, an oral commitment is not binding, so the recruiting process continues. Enter Lane Kiffin, the Alabama offensive coordinator and the former coach at high-profile football teams such as the Oakland Raiders, USC and the University of Tennessee. He flew in […]

Tune to tune up Liva for short ride to UH

By Nick Abramo on May 5, 2016

Rick Tune and Isaac Liva were talking near the net after Thursday’s first state volleyball semifinal match at Moanalua. Tune, the former star at Hawaii and Pepperdine and in high school at Punahou, did more than congratulate Liva for a great season. The Punahou head coach offered his help as well, but we’ll get to that a little later. You see a few weeks ago, Liva, Mililani’s powerful outside hitter, committed to play for Hawaii next season. He had been […]

Moanalua rocks a colorful new scoreboard

By Nick Abramo on May 5, 2016

Joel Kawachi, the Moanalua athletic director, briefly told Hawaii Prep World about the capability of the equipment during a state boys volleyball […]
