The many faces of Emma Taylor

Hawaii Prep’s Emma Taylor stole the show at the Island Movers / HHSAA state track and field championships over the weekend, winning her fourth straight state title in the 100 hurdles and third consecutive crown in the 300 hurdles. She also placed second to Kaiser’s Kristen O’Handley in the 200 meters and ran a relay to lead Hawaii Prep to the team title.

The hurdles victories moved Taylor past Prestine Foster for most ever in the state championships with seven. Her only loss came as a freshman to Iolani’s Lindsay Combs. Foster collected six hurdles titles in her four years and Kahuku’s Zhane Santiago collected five, four of them in the 100.

Here are some pictures from her winning effort in the 100 hurdles on Saturday, showing off the range of emotions a champion goes through in the last 10 meters of a race:

I don’t know what Emma has for breakfast, but we are going to find out, package it and sell it under the name of “Zippy” or something like that. Go Emma!
