Kahuku teammates add to offer sheets

By Hawaii Prep World on August 21, 2016

Hawaii High School Football Recruiting Tracker. It’s been a pretty nice weekend for Kahuku teammates Kekaula Kaniho and Aliki Vimahi. First, they took part in a 50-7 thumping of Aiea on Friday night to stretch the top-ranked Red Raiders’ winning streak to 15 games dating back to the end of the 2014 season. Then, both received another Division I scholarship offer. Kaniho tweeted Saturday that Boise State was the eighth school to make him a scholarship offer: Very thankful & […]

Kahuku volleyball team is for real, but it’s early

By Nick Abramo on August 21, 2016

You want some fun? Kahuku head coach Mounia Tachibana has the sport for you, then. No surprise there … it’s volleyball. Still, it was interesting that the word “fun” came to mind for her after her Red Raiders beat host Kamehameha in the grueling three-set final of the Kamehameha Invitational girls tournament at Kapalama on Saturday. After the match, she told Hawaii Prep World how her girls are so focused and nervous that they sometimes forget why they’re playing. It’s […]

It was rush week for Mililani offense

By Nick Abramo on August 21, 2016

Can run. Can pass. It won’t be easy for opponents to stop Mililani this season, even without the three departed superstars that fired up the offense for three seasons in a row. The sixth-ranked Trojans rushed (yes, you read that correctly … rushed) for 335 yards in a 42-0 home rout of previously unbeaten Castle. But, what’s more, sophomore quarterback Dillon Gabriel was highly effective, completing 14 of 20 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Gabriel released his passes […]

Hurricanes find their balance

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 21, 2016

As might be expected with June Jones on the coaching staff and Taulia Tagovailoa behind center, Kapolei’s run-pass ratio was decidedly tilted toward the aerial attack in the Hurricanes’ first two games. The split was decidedly more even in Kapolei’s 44-13 win over Leilehua on Saturday in Wahiawa. Kapolei had thrown the ball on more than 81 percent of its plays a win over Campbell and a loss to Waianae with 83 pass attempts for 526 yards. In contrast, the […]

Melemai’s first win at Kalani a memorable one

By Billy Hull on August 20, 2016

The first one is many times the toughest one to get. Kalani first-year coach Scott Melemai was well on his way to securing the first win of his Falcons tenure when Kaimuki suddenly struck for 14 points in the span of 2 minutes, 31 seconds to take a 22-19 lead on Saturday night in an OIA Division II showdown at Kaiser Stadium. Kalani’s defense had not allowed a single point for over 43 minutes of game time. Suddenly, a 1-yard […]

QB Down: Kailua assesses life without Serikawa

By Paul Honda on August 20, 2016

The ripple effect of Keoni Serikawa’s injury puts the Kailua Surfriders in prep football crisis mode, it would seem. Serikawa went down with an apparent broken collarbone during the first quarter of their 42-7 loss to Farrington on Saturday. It happened quietly; nobody in the press box noticed it. During Kailua’s second series, he took a sack for a 6-yard loss, and on third down, Serikawa’s pass to running back Mark Lagazo fell incomplete. No one but the Surfriders knew […]

Pascua a focal point of the ‘Iolani offense

By Christian Shimabuku on August 20, 2016

The ‘Iolani backfield is establishing itself as a real threat in the preseason. After quarterback Tai-John Mizutani shredded Radford for 245 yards and three passing touchdowns in the Raiders’ season opener, running back KJ Pascua put on a show of his own against Waimea on Saturday afternoon at Kozuki Stadium. The senior ran for all three of ‘Iolani’s touchdowns in the first half after the Raiders found themselves in a quick 3-0 deficit to the visiting Menehunes. He finished with […]

GAME NIGHT 8/20: Saint Louis/Hilo

By Hawaii Prep World on August 20, 2016

Six more games on Oahu scheduled for Saturday including a couple of afternoon tilts involving neighbor island teams. Let’s get to it. The second-ranked Saint Louis Crusaders wil try to get their first full game in after the opener against Mililani was canceled after the first quarter due to a power outage. The Crusaders are on the Big Island to play Hilo at Wong Stadium. History: Saint Louis’ only meeting against Hilo in the last 43 years was a 61-0 […]
