GAME NIGHT 8/20: Saint Louis/Hilo

Six more games on Oahu scheduled for Saturday including a couple of afternoon tilts involving neighbor island teams. Let’s get to it.

The second-ranked Saint Louis Crusaders wil try to get their first full game in after the opener against Mililani was canceled after the first quarter due to a power outage. The Crusaders are on the Big Island to play Hilo at Wong Stadium.

History: Saint Louis’ only meeting against Hilo in the last 43 years was a 61-0 win at Wong Stadium in 1998.

9:30 p.m.: Final Score from Wong Stadium: 49-7 Saint Louis.

9:22 p.m.: After a 14 yard run down to the Hilo two yard line, Hilo holds Saint Louis out of the end zone, and takes over on downs at their own five yard line with 2 minutes left to go.

9:20 p.m.: Hilo beginning to implode, as another personal foul pushes the ball deep into Hilo territory. Ball spotted at the Hilo 20 with just over 7 minutes left in the game.

9:17 p.m.: Hilo makes a change at quarterback, likely to try and preserve the health of their starters for next week’s game. No change in results, as Saint Louis forces another three and out. Saint Louis fields punt, then gets 15 more tacked on after fair catch violation. 8:24 left in game.

9:14 p.m.: On fourth down, Cordeiro’s pass is incomplete, as Hilo takes over on downs. This is only the second Crusader drive that did not result in a score. The other was the drive that was ended by halftime.

9:12 p.m.: Cordeiro sacked back at the Saint Louis 30 yard line, as the third quarter comes to an end. Score remains 49-7 in favor of the Crusaders. Hilo only ran three plays in the third quarter, all incomplete passes.

9:10 p.m.: Cordeiro eludes pressure and scrambles for a 28 yard touchdown, but score is negated by a holding penalty.

9:06 p.m.: Penalties ruin a Hilo drive, and Hilo is forced to punt. Saint Louis takes over at Hilo 49 with 3:49 left in the third. Clock continues to run.

8:58 p.m.: After a botched handoff by Hilo, Luke Kava recovers the fumble in the end zone for another Saint Louis touchdown. Extra point is good, and the score is now 49-7 with 8:52 left in third quarter.

8:54 p.m.: Cordeiro fires 27 yard touchdown pass to Bobby Mitchell to make it 42-7 for Saint Louis. Mercy rule running clock now in effect.

8:52 p.m.: Chevan Cordeiro in for Tagaovailoa to start the third quarter for Saint Louis.

8:49 p.m.: Second half about to start at Wong Stadium, with Crusaders receiving the kick. Tua did not appear to be warming up before the kickoff, with Saint Louis ahead by 28.

8:32 p.m.: Halftime! Saint Louis with a commanding 35-7 lead.


8:29 p.m.: Three and out for Hilo. Saint Louis gets in back with 35 seconds left in the half.

8:24 p.m.: After illegal helmet contact results in personal foul penalty on Hilo, the ball to Hilo 24 after a 26 yard pass. Crusaders score, on a 15 yard pass from Tua to Noah Alejado with 2:42 left in the first half. 35-7 Saint Louis.

8:18 p.m.: Hilo gets on the board! 8 yard touchdown pass caps a long, 14 play, 73 yard drive touchdown drive. Hilo drive took nearly eight minutes off the clock. After successful extra point, Saint Louis leads 28-7 with 3:29 left in the first half.

8:15 p.m.: First and goal for Hilo at the 8 yard line after pass-interference called on Saint Louis.

8:12 p.m.: Hilo finally finds some offensive success, converts fourth and 6 to Crusader 11 yard line. Hilo threatening for first time tonight. Drive time approaching seven minutes.

8:07 p.m.: First completed pass for Hilo results in first non-penalty first down of the game.

8:05 p.m.: Hilo picks up second first down of the game, again on penalty. Hilo has just two plays for positive yardage in the game so far.

8:01 p.m.: Jahred Silofau finds pay dirt on a 35 yard run. After successful extra point, it’s 28-0 Saint Louis, with 11:20 left in first half.

7:58 p.m.: End of the first quarter. 21-0 Saint Louis.

7:56 p.m.: Seven straight incomplete passes for Hilo, as the Crusaders force another three-and-out. Saint Louis takes over at their own 38 yard line. Some excitement, as the Crusaders initially drop the ball after a big hit on coverage teams.

7:53 p.m.: 6-yard pass to Kainalu Reyes-Hackney for second touchdown of day for Tua. Saint Louis now three-for-three in scoring drives in the first quarter. 21-0 Crusaders with 49 seconds left in the quarter.

7:50 p.m.: Saint Louis converts fourth-and-11 with 49 yard pass to Hilo nine-yard line. Crusaders threatening again.

7:38 p.m.: Saint Louis threatening again, Tua had a pass dropped in the end zone. 14 yards away from paydirt. Tua strolls into the end zone untouched and the extra point is good, Crusaders lead 14-0 with six minutes left in the first quarter.

7:32 p.m.: Tua Tagovailoa hits Ronson Young for a 70 yard TD strike! 7-0 Crusaders. That didn’t take long.


7:24 p.m.: Hilo drives, going six plays all on passes, but forced to punt. NO, they go for it and fail to give the Crusaders the ball at midfield.

7:18 p.m.: Hilo wins the toss and elects to receive.
