Kahuku vs. Waianae: The Crunch Bowl?

USC’s Malepeai out 6-to-8 weeks with injury

USC freshman running back Vavae Malepeai will miss 6-to-8 weeks with a shoulder injury, according to a report by Michael Castillo on ReignOfTroy.com. Malepeai, a 2016 Mililani graduate and Hawaii’s all-time leading high school rusher, broke his scapula during practice last week. HHSAA makes changes to state football tourney

The HHSAA voted Monday to add a third tier to the state football tournament, creating an Open division to go along with both Division I and Division II tournaments. The Open division will consist of the top four OIA teams and the top two ILH teams. The Division I tournament will consist of four OIA teams, two BIIF teams and one team each from the ILH and MIL. The Red Raiders’ girls volleyball team looks like a legitimate contender for a state championship this season as evidenced by a 25-23, 21-25, 25-22 victory over preseason-No. 1 Kamehameha on Saturday at the Kamehameha Invitational. Kahuku breaks into USA Today Top 25

The first regular-season USA Today Super 25 rankings came out Monday with only one new addition. Defending Hawaii state champion Kahuku is ranked No. 25 in the country after rolling to wins over Leilehua and Aiea to start the season. Kahuku, which has won 15 straight games and won a fan contest sponsored by USA Today finding American’s best football program, is ranked No. 5 in the West Region.
