Punahou’s Wilcox tops in boys volleyball

Punahou junior outside hitter Ryan Wilcox was named the Star-Advertiser’s player of the year for boys volleyball in Sunday’s newspaper, continuing an unprecedented three-year run for the program. Wil Stanley was the player of the year last year and Micah Ma’a took the award after the previous season. In all, the Buffanblu had five players on the Fab 15, for the third straight year. Pilares to run an athletic camp at Damien

Former Damien football star Kealoha Pilares will be running his Athletic-Based Movement” camp at his alma mater with six sessions this summer. The dates for ages 11-17 are June 4, 11, 25 and July 2, 9 and 16 at Damien. The cost is $120 for all six sessions. MIL enjoys banner year

The Maui Interscholastic League came to play at the state level this school year. The league took as many team championships as it ever had with seven, four of them coming from the girls. The MIL’s previous high was four each in 2013-14 and 2015-16 and had won at least three every year since 2012 when it had one. Kapolei OL adds 2 huge Pac-12 offers

Kapolei offensive lineman Julius Buelow, who will be a junior in the fall, has received two new scholarship offers from Pac-12 schools according to Hurricanes coach Darren Hernandez. Hernandez, who says Buelow is a legit 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds, was offered by Oregon and UCLA this week. The Bruins and Ducks join BYU, Hawaii, Fresno State and Oregon State in offering Buelow, who played at Damien this past season before transferring to Kapolei. Buelow is one of six Hurricanes set […]

2017 Hall of Honor class announced

The HHSAA elected its newest class of the Hall of Honor on Monday, bringing the total of legendary athletes to 420, split between 249 boys and 171 girls. Honorees receive a $2,000 scholarship from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Navy football coach and Radford graduate Ken Niumatalolo will be the featured speaker at the induction banquet set for June 4 at the Pomaika’i Ballroom at Dole Cannery. Here are the newest members:

KSK’s Yam posts top-10 score at The Opening

Kamehameha quarterback Thomas Yam finished with one of the top 10 unofficial Nike football ratings at The Opening in Oakland, Calif., on Sunday. Yam, who was measured at 6-foot-1 and 194 pounds, received a score of 108.90 which was the highest of any quarterback at the regional football showcase held at De Anza High School.
