HAWAII GROWN: Dung is MWC’s top pitcher

Fresno State sophomore right-hander Kamalani Dung, a 2015 Kamehameha graduate, was named the Mountain West Conference pitcher of the year today. Dung, who has thrown every pitch in the Bulldogs’ last nine games and gone 8-1 to help the Bulldogs advance to the NCAA tournament, went 13-6 with a 2.04 ERA and 99 strikeouts with 16 complete games in 120 innings pitched during conference games. “What Kama was able to do over 19 games is remarkable,” Fresno State head coach […]

Fresno State, which had already ramped up its recruiting presence in Hawaii with Tony Tuioti on staff before he left for Cal, handed out a flurry of offers to Hawaii high school players on Tuesday. Kapolei was the huge winner with four players, including defensive tackle Aaron Faumui, receiving a scholarship offer from the Bulldogs. Pearl City DL adds another Pac-12 offer

Pearl City junior Zion Tupuola-Fetui, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end/outside linebacker, picked up his seventh Division I football scholarship offer on Monday and fourth from the Pac-12. Tupuola-Fetui announced on Twitter that California is the latest school to offer Tupuola-Fetui, joining Oregon, Oregon State and Washington out of the Pac-12, as well as Nevada, Hawaii and Vanderbilt. Oregon’s first trip to the NCAA tournament in 10 years came to an end on Saturday with a 4-2 loss to No. 30 N.C. State. Mililani principal Fred Murphy made the best of a bad situation at the state track meet. Led by Murphy, three seniors from the Trojans’ Oahu Interscholastic Association championship track team — Kaleo Pogue, Hamilton Howard and Jaratt Kaopuiki-Ota — were given a mini-graduation ceremony, complete with caps, gowns, lei and diplomas during Fridays trials.
