HAWAII GROWN: Poe, Aguinaldo earn top NWC honors

Whitman (Wash.) senior point guard Casey Poe was voted the Northwest Conference women’s basketball player of the year today. Poe finished second in the conference averaging 17.0 points per game for the Blues (22-3, 14-2), who are currently ranked No. 13 in Division III. The 2014 KS-Hawaii alumna is also third in the league in blocks (33), fourth in assists (86) and sixth in steals (47). Farrington to play in Polynesian Football Classic

Farrington is one of 10 schools which will participate in the Polynesian Football Classic in Las Vegas on Sept. 7 and 8. The Governors will face Carson (Calif.) in one of four games on Sept. 8 at Liberty High School. ‘Iolani finished with the ILH championship, but McKinley had one more player selected to the league all-star team in 1968 by the Honolulu Advertiser. ‘Iolani senior linebacker John Parker was the only repeat selection from a year earlier and was the lineman of the year. Down 16-0, Dallas Martinez and Kaelyn Espinda sparked a comeback as Team Black rallied past Team Blue for a 41-33 win in the final of the high school division of the 25th Annual Mufi Hannemann Basketball Jamboree at Manoa District Park gym. There never really was a bottom for the team that started on top, hit a few potholes, but revved up and relaunched to the top. The Punahou Buffanblu finally got theirs, sweeping through the Snapple/HHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships. Punahou (29-4) ousted Lahainaluna 60-50, Moanalua 75-69 and Kahuku 64-37 for its first state title since 2012.
