By Paul Honda on March 14, 2018

She draws inspiration from an eclectic range of people, from family to snowboarders. The Sacred Hearts senior helped lead the Lancers — including Maile Fox, Clarissa DeSmet and Quinn Lum — to a state championship last fall, posting a total score of 2,132 at Blaisdell Center. Her tally of 544 topped her team and was fourth overall on […]

The Hurricanes are off to a 3-2 start in the OIA West, and Bartolotti, a junior transfer from Maui High, is an important part of the team. She had 12 strikeouts against Campbell and eight strikeouts each against Leilehua and Pearl City. Bartolotti played for the Utah Firecrackers club team last summer. “She’s a really good kid […]

Trojans, Mules get good look at depth chart

By Paul Honda on March 14, 2018

Things aren’t quite the same when there’s a nine-run margin in the middle of a baseball game. Ryan Ancheta was cruising along with a one-hitter after four frames. He needed a modest 51 pitches to record 12 outs, but the Mililani Trojans opted to get some game action for reserves with a big lead. In the aftermath of a 16-hit attack and a 10-5 win over Leilehua, ninth-ranked Mililani got to see what it needed to see on the mound. […]

Coach Richard Braithwaite is moving on. That’s just something he does. And he is leaving a lasting impact at Hawaii Prep. Braithwaite led Ka Makani to three straight boys soccer state championships — Division II in 2016 and 2017, and a share of the Division I title with Baldwin in 2018. “My family and I are moving to Malawi in Africa,” Braithwaite said. “My wife and I are English teachers, and try to be world travelers, using our teaching as […]

By Nick Abramo on March 14, 2018

Nanakuli athletic director Andrew Moody says the school is in the process of recruiting Golden Hawks girls athletes to see if they want to help keep the softball team in competition for the rest of the season. “We’re trying to hustle up some other athletes to get out there,” Moody said via cellphone Wednesday. “We have eight players, just under the nine needed to play. There are some prospects supposedly who will come out today to start working out. If […]
