The state baseball tournament has come full circle, with Baldwin atop the mountain. With the Star-Advertiser’s All-State baseball team coming out Sunday, here is a look at the All-State teams from 1959-69. The longest football game in Hawaii high school history has led to a proposal by athletic directors to ensure that there won’t be a repeat performance. Last November at Aloha Stadium, Lahainaluna outlasted Konawaena 75-69 in seven overtime periods to win the state’s Division II championship. Kamehameha hires boys, girls basketball coaches

Larry Park and Alexis Straight are the new Kamehameha boys and girls basketball coaches, the school announced Tuesday. Park is a former Warriors player. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii. Park has been on the Kamehameha staff as a math teacher since 1987 and has more than 20 years of basketball coaching experience at various levels. “Larry has proven his coaching and teaching ability,” a Kamehameha athletics news release stated. “He has demonstrated his ability […]

A busy offseason of learning and applying knowledge helped junior outfielder Alyssa Asuncion of Leilehua become an All-State first-team outfielder. Asuncion hit .488 with an OBP of .560 and a slugging percentage of .814.

Kaiser’s Ikei takes Pan-Am wrestling gold medal

Kaiser’s Tiare Ikei won a gold medal at the Pan-American Championships cadet wrestling tournament on Saturday in Guatemala City. Kailua’s Parker is Hawaii Gatorade player of year

Kailua senior Stone Parker was chosen as the Gatorade Hawaii baseball player of the year, the Gatorade Company announced today. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed pitcher and first baseman posted a 6-1 record with a 0.69 earned run average on the mound.
