Iolani was the elite program of the 1970s with three state titles, but there was plenty of parity with Aiea winning twice and no other school doubling up.
There were still no all-state teams, so this list of pages compiles league all-stars from the decade.
The list of big stars has to begin in the OIA with Aiea, which featured both Gerald Ako and Derek Tatsuno on the hill. But Punahou’s Glenn Goya was no slouch in the year between them.
It was an era in which every team seemed to have its share of outstanding players.
Check out names like Kalani’s Lenn Sakata, Roosevelt’s Dunn Muramaru after the ILH and OIA split, Vince Passas of Saint Louis, Punahou’s Mosi Tatupu, McKinley shortstop Eric Tokunaga, Burton Coloma of Waialua, Damien’s Joey DeSa and Kelly Sur of McKinley.
