On this date in 2011, Little League World Series heroes Kaeo Aliviado and Iolana Akau helped Saint Louis over Mid-Pacific in a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 on the Owls field. Saint Louis ended up winning the ILH and both schools lost their first games at states. On this date in 1998, the Kahuku girls basketball team proved that a balanced approach can overcome even the brightest star. Nine different Red Raiders scored points and Kahuku beat Farrington 49-45 despite Robynn Afe’s 29 points — 22 in the second half. Tiki Vasconcellos‘ Rough Riders won 11 of 12 events and set seven records in meet the public schools championship. Their success wasn’t limited to public schools, though, as Roosevelt went on to sweep the Cornell Relays and Prep Championship later in the year. Punahou finished second in both.
