ON THIS DATE: Roosevelt dominates track and field

Rufus Shuff and Doug Anduha were stars for the 1955 Roosevelt track and field team.

On this date in 1955, Roosevelt was the team to beat in every event in track and field.


Tiki Vasconcellos‘ Rough Riders won 11 of 12 events and set seven records in meet the public schools championship. Their success wasn’t limited to public schools, though, as Roosevelt went on to sweep the Cornell Relays and Prep Championship later in the year. Punahou finished second in both.

    Thanks for sharing that story my Dad Douglas Anduha passed away in Dec 1999. Man he broke a 30 year old record before it being broke I think 12 years later. My pops always bragged how good these guys were. His scrap books was filled with some great track and football players also old photos of the old fields and stadiums. Thank you for sharing that made my day.
