VIDEO: Damien vs. ‘Iolani (playoff)

By Paul Honda on October 26, 2014

The Raiders used their rushing attack and defense to stifle the Monarchs for a 34-14 win in the ILH Division II second-round final. Storm Lotomau (110 yards) and K.J. Pascua (91) ran for one TD each for ‘Iolani, which captured the ILH D-II title.

LIVE BLOG: Punahou 35, Saint Louis 28, Final

By Paul Honda on October 24, 2014

First quarter Slight delay here, my apologies. Had to finish writing my story on the first game (‘Iolani beat Damien 34-14). Jason Kaneshiro is doing the game story for this game and Billy Hull is doing the TRENCH WARFARE post on Fred Ulu-Perry. The scoring opened with a pristine 35-yard bullet from Tua Tagovailoa to Drew Kobayashi on a post route, single coverage, to give STL a 7-0 lead. Tagovailoa scored on a 6-yard run, but STL missed the PAT. […]

LIVE BLOG: ‘Iolani 34, Damien 14, Final

By Billy Hull on October 24, 2014

‘Iolani had its streak of six consecutive Division II state titles come to an end last year at the hands of Kauai. What hasn’t ended is a run of 10 straight ILH Division II titles. The Raiders will try to make it 11 in a row with a victory over Damien tonight. The Monarchs have lost their last 15 games against ‘Iolani but were competitive through two and a half quarters before losing 37-14 in late August. Kickoff is 5:30 […]

Damien ready to end steak against ‘Iolani

By Billy Hull on October 23, 2014

You could hear the disappointment in Eddie Klaneski‘s face and see the frustration with every pained expression. After Damien’s 37-14 loss to ‘Iolani back in late August, Klaneski wasn’t a coach happy that his team stayed close with the 10-time defending ILH Division II champions through two and a half quarters. There were no moral victories here. Even though the Monarchs hadn’t beaten ‘Iolani in their last 15 tries, Klaneski walked onto the ‘Iolani campus that day expecting to beat […]

Monarch Transportation: By ground, by air

By Paul Honda on October 19, 2014

They are serving the greater good, these Damien Monarchs. For longtime, patient fans, the Monarchs aim to please whether by ground or air. It might be enough to take them someplace special this fall. Yes, Damien is back in the ILH Division II final, but some things are different this time around. Coach Eddie Klaneski’s team can hurt any defense that tilts too close to either aspect of the Monarchs’ offense. In Friday’s 42-28 semifinal win over a dangerous Pac-Five […]

Samson Low rushed for 177 yards and two TDs, and Dallas Labasan passed for 171 yards and two more TDs in Damien’s 42-28 win.

LIVE BLOG: Damien 42, Pac-Five 28, final

First quarter >> Pac-Five’s game-opening series covers 66 yards, but they stall out at the Damien 4-yard line: QB Kainoa Ferreira scrambles for no gain, he throws and incomplete pass to Tsubasa Brennan in the end zone, a 4-yard keeper by Ferreira, and a rushed (against the play clock) incomplete pass by Ferreira to the motion man, Brennan. Either he lost track of time (inexperience) or the coaches did. It was an interesting first possession. The Wolfpack did two things […]

VIDEO: Pac-Five vs. Damien

By Paul Honda on October 14, 2014

By game time at Aloha Stadium, both teams knew that ‘Iolani was en route to a victory over St. Francis in an afternoon game at Eddie Hamada Field. That rendered the Pac-Five/Damien game meaningless in terms of the standings. Both teams would play each other again in a week when the ILH Division II playoffs began. Nothing really changed. Both teams let it all hang out. After 90 pass attempts combined, it was Damien that prevailed, 26-21. The sequel promises […]
