As expected, Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Punahou is the No. 1 seed in Division I for this week’s New City Nissan Boys Volleyball State Championships. The other three seeded teams are No. 2 Moanalua, No. 3 Kamehameha-Hawaii and No. 4 King Kekaulike. In Division II, another ILH champion, Hawaii Baptist, earned the top seed. The OIA boys volleyball playoffs are set after the conclusion of the regular season on Tuesday night. The Kamehameha boys volleyball team has been up and down all season. Saturday certainly counts as a good day. The Warriors beat Hawaii Baptist 25-19, 27-25 to capture the KS Cup in their own gym, beating a stacked field that included KS-Hawaii and three California schools. Three of Hawaii’s best teams will face off with three California powers in this week’s Kapalama Cup on the Kamehameha campus. The host Warriors share a pool with Fountain Valley and Santa Barbara. Kamehameha-Hawaii and Hawaii Baptist are in the other pool with Edison of Huntington Beach, Calif.
