Quarterback battle possibly brewing at ‘Iolani

By Kyle Sakamoto on August 16, 2019

If ‘Iolani has learned anything in the early season, it is a team which has two capable quarterbacks. Chong, a senior, received most of the playing time over the Raiders’ first two games, completing 15 of 30 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns. Faumuina was 3-for-7 for 55 yards and a […]

Sky Ogata tops 400 yards passing in new-look Roosevelt offense

By Kyle Sakamoto on August 10, 2019

Logic would tell you, Roosevelt should keep everything the same after winning the OIA Division II title last year. That’s not the case this season as the Rough Riders switched their offense from the split-back veer to the run-and-shoot. If Friday’s 42-6 victory over visiting McKinley is any indication, it appears Roosevelt’s offense is just as potent either way. Sky Ogata, who took every snap in the shotgun, completed 27 of 35 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns against […]

King Kekaulike gets help from Argentina to snap 41-game losing streak

By Kyle Sakamoto on August 3, 2019

The family of King Kekaulike quarterback Franco Melgar Martich moved from Argentina to Hawaii in search of a better life. Life as a football player has been rather poor for Na Alii’s football team the last few years, but things might be starting to look up. Melgar Martich did an excellent job of multi-tasking as King Kekaulike halted a 41-game losing streak by beating McKinley 30-0 in a nonleague game Saturday at Farrington’s Skippa Diaz Stadium. “Man, I’m feeling overjoyed,” […]
