Kahuku still clear No. 1 in Hawaii

Kahuku’s 35-7 loss to No. 1 Bishop Gorman did absolutely nothing in the minds of voters in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10.

The Red Raiders remained No. 1 in the state receiving 14 of 15 first-place votes for the fourth consecutive week. The lone non-Kahuku first-place vote remained with Saint Louis, which holds steady at No. 2 after a 35-3 win over Kamehameha at Aloha Stadium.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns against the Warriors to move to sixth on the career passing list with 6,699 yards.

Punahou bounced back from a 64-44 loss to the Crusaders with a 49-24 win over ‘Iolani to remain at No. 3. The 24 points allowed by Punahou were the most against an ‘Iolani team since 2009.

Waianae shut out Radford, 54-0, to remain at No. 4 with Kapolei enjoying a bye week to get healthy at the receiver position. The Hurricanes knocked off Kailua 34-20 to win their fourth straight game. QB Taulia Tagovailoa threw three touchdown passes, including his first to a receiver not named Jaymin Sarono or Wyatt Perez, and is up to 1,894 passing yards on the season.

The first change took place at No. 6 as Farrington, which was sixth two weeks before dropping to No. 8 last week, moved back up two spots after scoring a school-record 69 points in a blowout of Nanakuli. Mililani, which was idle, remained at No. 7 and Kamehameha dropped two spots to No. 8 after the 32-point loss to the Crusaders.

The neighbor islands hold the final two spots in this week’s rankings with Division II Kapaa remaining at No. 9 and Baldwin taking over the No. 10 spot by one vote over ‘Iolani.

Konawaena also received a vote.

808Savage, what sports writing company do you work for? you do understand that these are teenage boys from the same community dont you? Did you expect Kahuku to use a Run & Shoot Offense? Kahuku played their game, the same thing was said last year on how poor or bad the Kahuku team is. Funny thing is that the poor team spanked St Louis. The sad thing is Kahuku is being compared to ILH schools here in Hawaii that have the best of everything and before you stick your foot in your mouth, Kahauku NEVER USES that as an excuse, none of the private schools could survive if they didn’t take the BEST kids from communities in the state. It is why the Crusaders won because they were the only school that focused on recruiting back in the day. Today every school and their uncle recruits. Please don’t make assumptions that you are not familiar with. Let us not resort to hypothetical or frivolous statements that degrade and demean teenagers, school staff and community members. You speak as a well-informed individual, however, your comments and observations appear as though you have some unresolved trauma issues from your past that you have not resolved. I would highly recommend that you seek therapeutic assistance to help you deal with the traumatic events you have been exposed to. Writing is a good coping skill, unfortunately, negative writing, and your vindictive statements are filled with so much anger and malice are the indicators that I couldn’t help in making my assessment of your unresolved trauma…………. #truth #respect #thesearekids #verbalbully #jealous #nuffsaid…..

I expected everything from the fans, spirit week, special edition shirts, Pep Rally festivities, limited tickets selling out, predictions of loyal locals getting blown out of the water & most of all the outcome of the game. Everything that I’ve EXPECTED actually happened. Fans being overly confident, doing the Facebook live videos of Kahuku blowing out week OIA schools like they are above everyone. The reactions of every spectator chiming in on how Kahuku “owns this state” in football. All expectations are fulfilled in what I actually expected. But whats more interesting is that when they’re on top, its a confident, arrogant attitude that pushed around. And when its a loss especially a convincing loss. Nobody can accept the reality of it. Pride is one thing but seeing the reality through your own eyes is another.

Can’t wait to see how all these fans react when Punahou & Kahuku are in the same bracket for the State Tournament.

waiting on you 4 gentlemen…please dont cower out!

2004 grad? Awesome, what does life hold for you 12yrs later? Please don’t tell me bagging groceries, construction or PCC. Please prove to all of us that there is life after football in Kahuku. My guess is a Corrections Officer at best.

@jezzy33… what’s with name calling? I’m not trynna get into keyboard war with u out guys. Just giving my opinion and perspective on Hawaii football. . .I can debate with yall but name calling and belittling is not my strong suit.

@808Savage… I agree with every issue you brought up, i just had questions for you. Yes, we all know who’s going to be on the schedules, but we don’t when the teams play until the scheduale is out. We’ll I didnt, I’ve coached both oia/ilh and we knew who to get ready for but didn’t know when we played them. I’m just a fan of the football here on the islands and the success stories that come from this little place. Kahuku is just the latest team from Hawaii to take on a national power and fail.

jeezy is still cowering out…simply state your alma mater and we can move forward with intellectual conversations.

so far 0 of 4 from (edu,al,jeezy,808savage) maybe they are all one person.

and fyi edu said 2k on an even win/loss without the spread, I upped him 5k on the spread and he dissapeard never to be heard from again. just like now how he wont tell us his alma mater so we can show him love.

Moron, like I said, I was away in Japan doing business. Sorry I had to tend to important things such as making money. And not welfare money from the government that you are used to. I am talking where you have to actually do work.

You talk a lot of smack for a coward. So I listed my hs on the last comment. But I will make another bet wit you.

Tomorrow I will be at Morimoto Waikiki for Lunch. We will be seated inside. I will have my work partner change the rez to 5 to include you. I will get there at 11:30am. Be there by 11:45am and the latest so we all can order and have some cocktails.

I will be wearing a yellow aloha shirt and brown dress pants. It will be easy to find me since I will probably be the largest person sitting down. Ask for the Fujikawa party since it’s under my friend Dean. We will be seated inside where there is AC closer to the kitchen side.

Please bring $10,000 cash, you pick the NFL team and we can use any Vegas spread you want. You can even pick the game and the team. I will bring odds from 8 Vegas casinos and you can pick the best odds.

You never showed yesterday and I know it was nerves so I will give you a mulligan. If you don’t show tomorrow then we all know you are just a coward who talks crap.

    Aloha….

anywaaays, you really are a stupid individual. I hope to god not everyone from Kahuku is like you because otherwise I fear for the future of the north shore community. You don’t answer any of my questions. you don’t address any of my posts. You’re just interested in what school I went to in a pathetic attempt to score points by making fun of it like a little boy. For the rest of the RR community, how do you stand talking to this idiot? It’s crazy.

To be clear, I’m not hating on Kahuku high school or the football team at all. I’m hating on YOU. Please go to the nearest community college, that would be WCC for you, and get yourself educated. k thanks.

You are correct, our football is not that great. But if you notice, the popularity of football in our school is not that high. We stress more things such as high academics. We also do a lot of community service and charitable events. There are a lot of fundraising going on to get more computers, textbooks, online subscriptions, apps, tablets, etc.

Then you notice that kinds of schools that our graduates get into. Like Punahou and Iolani, our graduates often attend IVY League colleges.

We teach our kids that life is about creating opportunities for yourself through consistent work inside and outside of the classroom.

And after watching my children graduate from top colleges many years ago I would trade that for any state sports title. Does a state sports title get you into college and a job making 6 figures straight out of college? I don’t think so.

So you can continue to attempt to insult me. But all I have to do is think of the life I provided for my kids, the lives they lead now due to the hard work and vision my wife and I had, and how they and their children are reaping the benefits of our decisions now.

You can keep you trophies. But more important, are you showing tomorrow at Morimoto’s to place that wager? My buddy Dean was able to add an extra seat for you. I will make sure to take out cash from FHB on my way home to Hawaii Loa today. Or maybe I will stop at my other house at 1 Ala Moana next to Jerry who lives on the Penthouse….

  13. Education First September 20, 2016 2:39 pm

@ Anywaays, it’s sad that you think boys cheer-leading is anything less than or less noble than football. They are of equal importance.

It’s that shallow and limited mind that has failed you. That is why you are lucky our government provides welfare to help you. You are lucky that there is W.I.C. to help you feed your baby.

I quiver to think what kind of thoughts travel through your mind on a daily basis. I hope the people in Kahuku lock their door when you walk through the neighborhood. Keep the little ones safe.

That’s a good question. Although I don’t think anywaays has ever played football. He has shown ZERO knowledge of football aside from “SMASHMOUTH! YEAAAAH!!!” and trying to personally insult people who do by making fun of their high schools.

But, I really am curious, anywaaays. What DOES life hold for you 12 years after you graduated? There’s no shame in being a corrections officer. I heard you guys can take A LOT of vacation time.

iolani grad. lettered in football and basketball -> UC berkley grad.

Please dont’ try and be like “Iolani??? WE SMASH YOU GUYS IN FOOTBALL LOL!” because dude, I dont’ really care. High school was a while ago. Me and my friends I shared memories on the field and on the courts with have moved on with our lives. It’s sad that you’ve actually never left high school.

Also, I can tell that you have never gone to college. Do you know how big male cheerleaders are at the college level? Where do they come from? High school. I’ve known male cheerleaders who could throw you out the window with their left hand.

You really are pathetic, anywaaays. Jeezy called it. The only thing you were gonna do is deflect deflect and then think you’re scoring points on us by trying to trash talk our high school football teams, as if ANYONE REALLY CARES ABOUT THAT.

  18. al September 20, 2016 3:00 pm

@anywaays “Here is a link that leads to your roots, give your intelligent inputs to those people and give back to your community instead of bashing Kahuku.”

Actually, let’s talk about this. Because you actually accused me of “not giving back to the community” when I was talking strictly about football (but you interpreted it as ‘bashing kahuku’). The funny thing is that I don’t even bash kahuku at all. I just like talking football.

I graduated from private school, played college ball (D-II) and I coached in the OIA working as a teacher until I changed jobs. So I experienced both sides, public and private, academically and sports. I would say that I actually did a lot for my community as a whole.

Now let me ask you, anywaaays. what have YOU done for YOUR community aside from playing internet RR4L tough guy?

Anything? Do you even have a job? Any kind of post-secondary education or technical training?

helping to build rail doesn’t count.

But I know you won’t answer this question. You will just deflect. Probably make more dumb comments about how I don’t want to reveal what school I graduated from. The people here, we get you, anywaaays. Just some kid that never left high school. The sad thing is you don’t understand yourself.

Please be sure to meet education first at morimotos and place a bet, anywaaays. but I know you won’t because you’re all talk and you give Kahuku fans a bad name.

  21. Jeezy33 September 20, 2016 3:30 pm

@al it’s because he spent so much time begging us for our high schools so he could brag about how Kahuku smashed all of them (even though nobody cares) that he can’t back down now. But note how his tone changed after we all got on him for never leaving high school with his “LOL WE SMASH ALL YOU GUYS IN FOOTBALL!” thing whereas before, when he was talking about Ken, he was extremely proud that he was trying to insult him by bringing up the campbell football program. He’s like a little kid.

Also, his boys cheerleading comment: extremely ignorant. It’s 2016, buddy. Nobody thinks that comment is cool except you.

Here is my definition of winning. It’s from Webster Dictionary Version 12.0.

This is the dumbest question I have ever read. “What is the cost of attitude and why?”

Are you asking “What is the cost of an attitude?” And “why” what?

Are these the type of questions they teach you to compose at Kahuku? And you are writing to someone telling them you will “MAKE IT SIMPLE FOR THEM?” Really?

What is the cost of attitude? And Why? HAHAHAHAH!

if my son was a cheerleader and got a $40,000 – $50,000 cheerleading scholarship to USC, UCLA, Cal, etc., not only would I “CHEER” (yes pun intended), and celebrate. I would wear a shirt that read, “That’s Right My Boy Is A Male Cheerleader!”

And I would be damn proud since I know my son is doing something he enjoys, has the discipline to be good at it, and is doing something positive with his time.

My point is if Kahuku was that good or any team was as good as everyone projects them to be.. A #1 team would go out of their way to place them. I know the pep rally & light show was a big experience for these Kahuku fans but let’s be real.

If anywaays actually went to college and saw an actual male cheerleader, there’s no way he would say or even insinuate that the dude is gay or unmanly. These guys are elite college athletes at their sport and train that way. They are BIG and athletic dudes. Not very many 6’2 215 pound all muscle men can do a standing backflip. They would also throw his head through a plate glass window faster than he could say “RR4L!”

This weekend Game of the Week:

    Friday/23rd…..Punahou vs Kamehameha
    Saturday/24th…..Farrington vs Kapolei

    “Game of the week”?
    -Punahou crushes Kamehameha
-Nobody cares who wins the Farrington/Kapolei game besides the ones admiring June Jones sophomore “prodigy” & how Darren Hernandez actually may have a playoff birth for the first time in his career.
But I really thought the game of the week was Kahuku vs Moanalua. The “bounce back game” where the RR score 80 pts & gets back on track.

  36. al September 20, 2016 9:17 pm

@anywaaays nobody cares, little boy. seriously. nobody cares.

So… you’re not gonna meet him. You’re not gonna place the bet. You don’t have the money. And you’re all talk.

    gotcha.

  38. Jeezy33 September 20, 2016 9:23 pm

Anywaays, there’s something you’re not understanding here. It’s not that people are really “hating” on Kahuku. They’re mainly hating on the arrogant fans on this blog. You’re the worst of them, because although the other fans tend to talk about football, all you do is avoid questions and try to trash other schools for whatever reason. You even are now getting homophobic about male cheerleading for whatever reason. You even turned al against you, and I dont’ think that guy has ever really bashed Kahuku at all.

Get a life, bro. Seeing you write is starting to get pathetic.

  39. 808Savage September 20, 2016 9:34 pm

    @al & @jeeezy
We need to all understand that anywaaaays is that one emotional Kahuku Alumni that made a some history in his 4 year career in high school. Now he continues to hold the spirit torch through social media & I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s next to the Mascot acting like its Halloween every game day.

I think this guy wants to show EduFirst his 2004 Championship pic on the Hukilau Cafe wall. He gotta show his relevance of why he’s a RR social media supporter & he knows what he’s talking about.

  41. 808Savage September 20, 2016 9:58 pm

Weak is an understatement. The only thing that they came in strong with is the Pep Rally light show & the overly confident RR fans. The Haka looked pretty weak too. I seen all these kids wearing their hats low so they can hide their face.

  42. 87 September 20, 2016 10:31 pm

Oi Swoooooole! you can treat me to lunch too I like see who this fool is that talking ish about our kids.

So I am guessing that you are “AANNWAAYS?” And why would I want to go to Hukilau Cafe? That place is fly ridden and disgusting. So you are going to treat me to a $5 meal? Wow thanks for the offer! And today I thought the only thing I would have to eat was 1 pop tart!

Damn, I am coming up! #lucky

Jeezy, you must be a damn prophet!

I graduated from Lowell High School in SF. are you happy now @

His NFL Draft Party at Da Crawfish & Crabshack was really fun. It was great seeing George and his wife so happy for their son. No young man deserves it more than DeForest. When we had our Alumni Luau last year, he was one of kids who stayed late to stack tables and chairs. What an amazing young man!

@Alpha, went to Punahou for 9 years then moved to the Bay Area where I graduated.

    @Education First

Anywaaays is the HWP stat boy. He’s taking info on every Anti-Kahuku comment & comparing it to his 2003 Championship season where they resurrected the Kahuku program by going “back to back” for the first time in school history. He proves the fact that there is nothing else to live for out in Kahuku but high school football & adults living through high school athletes.
When he takes you out for lunch. Let us know how the Kahuku shrine is in there. Hopefully you can get a seat in there & a fan. The place is a shoebox smaller than my living room.

  48. Dee Mitchell September 21, 2016 10:10 am

808Savage, your vitriol of the young men on the Kahuku HIGH School football is appalling. Why? Why say those filthy things? These are young men who play a sport that they love to play, sometimes they win, sometimes they lose, everybody loses sometimes, but you lose every time you spew hatred for these kids. Shame on you for calling them names. If you have a disagreement with another poster, fine, call her/him whatever, but to pick on the players is asinine. Stop it. All of you who are calling each other nasty names, should grow up and just stop it. If you have an Ivy League degree, great you have been blessed, if you make a million dollars and can dine t the best restaurants and drive the fanciest cars and live in the biggest homes, great, I am happy for you, you have been blessed, but you throw all those blessings in the toilet, when you expel such harsh words towards a group of high school students, whom by the way, did nothing to any of you. Shameful display of ‘adult’ behavior.

  49. al September 21, 2016 10:32 am

@Dee Mitchell yep. point fingers at everyone else but don’t point fingers at those of your own engaging in stupid behavior, like anywaaays, who has done more bashing of other high school programs, INCLUDING darren hernandez than anyone else here. 808Savage isn’t even trashing individual kahuku players.

    yep. sounds about right.

  50. Dee Mitchell September 21, 2016 10:33 am

and to those who agree with 808Savage’s posting, I guess that you are all celebrating Stennett Alapa’s injuries, smdh if you are. AND also,
anywaays, stop engaging in them, a true Red Raider, knows that haters will be haters, you cannot and will not change them. Go to FluxHawaii and watch Coach Sola’s video, that is what a true Red Raider should be. Better yet, go out and volunteer to help him, but stop the nastiness.
